These “live” dolls will represent the multitude of ethnicities, lifestyles and cultures of the African Diaspora. Once the show starts, an eclectic burst of fashion, music and dance will collide to bring to life the image of the powerful, beautiful and undeniable Black girl. This event is free and open to the community. The event will feature live music, free food, entertainment, vendors offering free items and social service agencies.
Girl Fit Experience
A Beautiful Image is a Healthy Image
The Black girl’s image in strong, powerful, courageous, unique and beautiful but it should also be healthy. Zoe Terry, the CEO of Zoe’s Dolls stated, “Being healthy is just as important as being on fleek.”
She wanted to start a fitness program to encourage Black girls “to eat better and get active.”
“It’s not about being skinny. It’s about making sure the body you love is healthy,” said Terry. “We can’t just sit around and eat junk like candy and hot chips. We need to but healthy foods in our bodies like salads and fruits. We need to do fun activities, like yoga, areal and tennis.”
Terry decided to add the program Girl Fit to her roster of empowering initiatives. Girl Fit will offer free and low cost healthy centered activities that encourage young girls of color to live a healthier lifestyle.
The first Girl Fit Event will be Saturday, July 23rd at Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, located at 3000 NW 199th Street in Miami Gardens, FL, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. The event will feature kid-friendly yoga, silk aerial, human hamster ball race, hula hoop station, jump roping station, line dancing, healthy snack demonstration and health activities designed for youth.
While the event is designed to empower healthy lifestyles in young girls, the event is free and open to people of all ages and gender. So that we are prepared for all who may attend, please register for the event using the following link:
